A box showed up at the studio yesterday. Inside was something that reminded me of how important it is to build your own movement with your music.
We opened up the box and…this plaque was inside!
The Beatstars team sent us a plaque to commemorate what we've done (by we, I mean you, me and the whole Legion family!!!) ?
How cool is that?
The funny thing is, I'm more excited about this than a lot of the accomplishments we've had in the “traditional” music industry.
Getting to work with big name artists is fun, but the fact is:
I get more excited about this new movement that we're a part of, than the old industry that's being taken over!
See, I've been making a living in the music industry for well over a decade.
Just being able to pay the bills working in the music industry is a rare accomplishment, and I'm super grateful that I've been able to do that.
But…it hasn't been until the last few years that I really feel successful.
That's because it was only a few years ago that we started connecting with artists like you online. Doing this opened me up to a new world of possibility.
Before that we did it all the old school, “old music industry” way.
And…I've had a lot of wins in the old industry that most would consider success (hearing my songs on the radio & TV, working with artists I grew up listening to, etc, etc)
But, now that I've learned how to create our own movement
– without the help of greedy labels and shady industry gate keepers –
I feel a much greater sense of accomplishment.
Hearing our songs on the radio now and hitting these kinds of milestones actually means a lot more to me than it used to, because it’s the result of something I have control over.
We’re not just making music anymore. We’re handling our own business and creating our own movement.
And that's what me and the Legion squad want for you.
We want to inspire you and help you create and build your own movement with your music!
I know too many people in the “old industry” that rely on labels and artists that don't care about them.
They end up feeling used and unappreciated.
I can't tell you how many artists, songwriters and producers I know personally that work with HUGE artists like Chris Brown, Drake, DJ Mustard, etc and are struggling!
I'm not exaggerating when I say that I know people who work with big artists, producers and labels like this and are literally homeless.
I'm not saying this to try to discourage you from chasing your dreams.
In fact, I'm saying the opposite.
My point is there's a better way than the traditional route and I want you to follow that path with everything you got.
The technology and tools we have now make it possible so that if you're willing to put in the work, day after day, month after month and year after year – then you can be successful and control your career.
Beatstars is one of those platforms/tools that's helped us do this, which is why it's so cool that we hit a million plays there and joined the 2 comma club!
But there are so many other opportunities and platforms that work for us and can work for you, like Instagram, Email, Youtube, FB messenger, and more. You just need to be strategic and have a plan for how to use these tools.
It's more possible than ever to start and maintain a direct relationship with your fans.
And, it's possible to work with a team that you find online to help you with key ingredients to your success like production, mixing & mastering, graphic design and everything else you need to build your movement.
We're committed to doing everything we can to help artists like you take advantage of those opportunities and we're working harder than ever to help get you real results.
